There are three rolling tobaccos I usually use. Two first are Finnish ones, from the country I live in, and the third one is German (I think). In a 50-50 rolling tobacco – pipe tobacco cigarette the rolling tobacco does not make so much difference. It’s the pipe tobacco that gives the taste, anyway, so any rolling tobacco can be used.
Bonus Red is the cheapest rolling tobacco in Finland, and I use it quite a lot because of the price. It tastes quite basic rolling tobacco with very slight chemical undertones, so my de luxe cigarettes use better alternatives.
Smart Red is a tad more expensive than Bonus Red, and a tad better-tasting. This is my basic choice for ‘sunday cigarettes’. It has a basic flavour, with no chemical undertones.
Manitou Gold is 100% additive free leaf tobacco. (Most cigarettes today have chemically modified stem of the tobacco plant in addition to leaves.) It has an extremely neutral flavour. I use this with the best pipe tobaccos, so the taste of the rolling tobacco does not disturb the taste of the pipe tobacco. It is, however, twice as expensive as Smart, so it is not suitable for everyday use.
