Flake-style pipe tobacco comes in sheets approximately a couple of millimeters thick. Somehow, as far as I have understood, pipe smokers manage to smoke these sheets in pipe with very little processing. For a cigarette smoker, the situation is different. You have to grind the sheet between your fingers before it can be used. The protocol is as follows:
(1) Cut a 5mm x 3-4 cm piece out of the sheet.
(2) Rub the piece between your fingers until it is ground. It needs to be fine, but not exactly powder.
(3) Place the pipe tobacco to the paper with some rolling tobacco. Use the sandwich method.
(4) Hand-roll and enjoy.
You will end up with a cigarette that burns worse than ordinary cigarettes, but which still can be enjoyed. While smoking, you may have to relight the cigarette once or twice. I have been smoking Samuel Gawith Balkan Flake with Manitou Gold this way, and it tastes simply heavenly.
